Arizona Gives Day, which is coming up on April 6th, is a special time for our community. Each year, Arizonans take the time to give donations to more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations that help our state thrive. Presented by FirstBank, the ninth annual Arizona Gives Day is going to be a bright spot in a difficult year.
Ever since the WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic, many traditional businesses and nonprofit organizations have seen a steep decline in revenue. A recent poll found that more than $91 million was lost by state nonprofits over the last year alone. For Arizona Gives Day, you can help make a difference by donating to organizations that help your community.
In that vein, we sincerely hope you will think of the Arizona Anti-Trafficking Network (AATN) for this year’s Arizona Gives Day. We always need more support in our fight against human trafficking.
What AATN Does and Why It Matters
We would be remiss if we said we were the only group who needed your support. There are dozens of hard-working nonprofit organizations throughout the state of Arizona, and all of them do amazing work. We encourage you to donate to as many of them as you can – even if it is only a dollar here or there.
As for ourselves, we can promise that every dollar given will either end up helping the victims of human trafficking or supporting our fight to make sure there are no more victims at all. Every year, millions of people around the world are forced into the modern-day equivalent of slavery. They are raped, tortured, beaten, and drugged. Many are brainwashed into thinking there is no way out for them and that their traffickers are their protectors.
And this is not only a third-world problem. It’s happening right here in the United States. Even in Arizona. Donating to AATN is one of the best ways to help put an end to this practice.
How Your Money Will Be Spent
Each program under AATN has a specific and important mission to follow and plays a vital role in ending labor and sex trafficking within communities across Arizona. You can read more about them below:
CEASE: CEASE works to eradicate sex trafficking in the state of Arizona by focusing on the demand for paid sex. Donations will be used for social media campaigns that directly target sex buyers with educational information and resources.
CSI: CSI is a youth-enrichment program that focuses on empowering the most vulnerable young people in our community by helping them develop self-esteem, understand healthy relationships, engage with local community leaders, and learn valuable real-life skills.
Donations to CSI will be used to fund classes that teach the basics of nutrition, kitchen safety, meal budgeting, and cooking skills for the preparation of healthy foods. In addition, donations will also help fund field trips and activities designed to broaden the student’s exposure to their community while offering them a positive experience.
Just Men: Just Men recognizes the unique voice and influence of men to help create communities in which the vulnerable can thrive. This program consists of an organization of men who actively disrupt the commercial sex market at the point of sale through personal, man-to-man conversations with would-be buyers.
All donations will be used to expand teams throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan Area and in different cities throughout the state. This money will help fund training and equipment needed for the expansion.
SAFE: The SAFE Action Project educates and trains the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries on how to recognize and report human trafficking. Donations help fund training sessions for industry professionals to learn how to identify, report, and prevent human trafficking.
TRUST: TRUST offers education and resources while leading collaborative engagement on issues involving human trafficking. Donations to TRUST will help stakeholders across the state have access to training, resources, and collaboration opportunities.
Your Help Is Appreciated
Every dollar you donate to AATN is a dollar that will help someone in need. Whether you ultimately help a survivor find their way out of a bad situation, give money to men trying to dissuade other men from buying sex, or help train the hospitality industry on how to spot and prevent sex trafficking, you can rest assured that you are contributing to help end human trafficking in Arizona.
Arizona Gives Day is a time to give back to your community. This year, please consider helping out in the fight against the modern equivalent of slavery. On April 6th, we sincerely hope you will make a contribution to AATN.
